Whenever a zone is entered or exited it can also run a terminal command of your choice (to launch an Apple Script or shell script, run an application, open a file, etc. It can play up to six sound files (AIFF or WAV, 1-16 channels) through any Core Audio sound hardware (1-16 channels) with complete control over signal routing. In the long-run these options provide much greater rewards, but if you have modest needs, Video Trigger is a painless way to get started. The answer often involves micro-controllers (like Arduino) and sensors, or custom software (via Processing, pd, vvvv, Isadora, or MAX). “How do I make a sound play when somebody walks by?” It aims to answer the question that I hear from many of my students: I designed Video Trigger for artists who want to experiment with interactivity without building custom hardware or software. If you want to trigger videos to play instead of sounds, see my other app, Video Triggers Video. Video Trigger can also trigger shell scripts or AppleScripts, and send MIDI notes. You have complete control over the playback logic and signal routing. I found it easy to use and the videos are timestamped with date and H/M/S.įor those of you who do use cell phones, check out this dev's FREE Bluetooth Lock which automatically locks your computer when you walk away and unlocks it as you near.Free Motion Detector App for Media ArtistsĪttach a camera and trigger sounds whenever occupancy is detected in six user-defined areas of the video image. I've been using a cheap 5 year old Logitech webcam and have been happy with the results and the app. I had to turn the audio sensitivity way down because I'd find dozens of clips were created even though nothing in the room had moved, due to outside noise. Recording can be activated by motion, sound or both. And Periscope can record up to 25 fames per second, it will even record from an IP camera. That's higher than 720p, almost 1080p! Spy Cam only records in 640x480. What about the large number of recording formats? 1600x1200 is a pretty damn big picture for a webcam. That's an additional expense that you may not want to incur. If you require remote access the app can uploaded videos to Dropbox and you can view them from anywhere. Only 1/2 star for a very good app just because it's missing one (albeit important) function? This app is certainly worthy of at least 3 stars even if you can't live without an app for it. I'll leave a review to offset the absurd one below.
